Free Preschool with the UPSTART Program

The state of Utah is offering an online at home preschool called UPSTART. Currently the program is at 60% capacity.Details from the Salt Lake Tribune:
UPSTART has room for 1,300 kids, including 390 students from low-income families who can also temporarily get computers for free. So far, about 60 percent of the program's slots are filled, said Kathy Maksimov, product management director for Waterford Institute, the Utah-based company that created the game. Children ages 4 and 5 are supposed to use the program for 15 minutes a day, five days a week, until they enter kindergarten. A cast of cartoon characters guide kids through short exercises about counting, sorting, letter sounds and vocabulary, among other things.

GREAT Father's Day Gift

If your hubby likes to tink around with power tools--he'll LOVE this!
Have you seen the infommercial of the Fein MultiMaster Power Tool?
We wanted that tool, but it was just a little rich for our occasional tool use.
Apparently, its patent ran out and so Harbor Freight made a knock-off of this tool.

It's on sale for $39.95, down from $59.95
(search for item 65700-3VGA on Harbor Freight's site)
OR
They have a store on State Street in SLC (where we bought ours) and other larger cities.
All Daddy's will be satisfied with this gift!
P.S. I'm not sure what attachments comes with it, but you can check & see. = )

They should call them "I-didn't-do-anything-but-got-stuff-free-BUCKS!

If you didn't see my post on my other blog about SwagBucks...here's a little reminder...

Swagbucks.com-- This is genious. All you have to do is use their search engine instead of google or yahoo and you earn "swagbucks" to redeem for gift cards or whatever. I have a goal to not use any until the end of the year and cash them all in to buy gift cards (to Amazon, Target, Macy's, etc.) to redeem for Christmas presents! It's totally free to sign up and it's just that simple. Just click on the link above or here to take you right to it. Do it right now!

(P.S. You don't actually have to download the toolbar if you don't want to, just log-in to swagbucks.com when you first get on the 'net and search for whatever you're looking for on their site.)

Just in case you're wondering...since that last post I've already earned a $5 giftcard (45 swagbucks) to Amazon.com! Sweet, huh! What I do is just login to swagbucks, search for yahoomail or whatever and usually the 3rd to 5th search you'll win a swagbuck for the day(could be $1-100...I've only won $2 once, though). Just do that again the next day or have your family members login whenever they get on, too, so they can earn for you! (or they can set up their own account).
Did you see Celebrity Apprentice last Sunday? The founder/owner of Swagbucks was on there helping Donald Trump. Just FYI so you know this site's legit.

Easy Peasy Pillow Slipcover Tutorial-ishness

I went to JoAnn's Fabric a bit ago and found some cute Hawaiian-ish style knit fabric. It was on their sale racks (back southeast corner of store) and they were having a sale--50% off already marked-down fabric. Yeah! That meant that instead of paying $3 bucks a yard, I only paid $1.50. There was only about 3 yards left on the spool-thingie so I bought it all.

Now..what to do with it?

I kept looking at my couch pillows and getting bored of their beigeness & green circles,

so I got out my new sewing machine (that I've only used a handful of times--

my sewing skills consist of 7th grade Home-Ec...

though surprisingly, I recall a lot from that class. Wish Math would've stuck...!)

So, I hate using patterns--too much pinning & measuring. I hate measuring when I cook, too, which is why I don't sew well and my cooking is bad. But I digress..

Back to the pillow covers...

I laid out the fabric right-side down & set a pillow on top. I cut around it with a little extra room on the sides and made sure I had enough to cover the whole pillow, fluffiness and all. Then, I took scissors and did a tiny cut to the side of where I needed to sew the fabric sides in order to get a snug fit (you can use chalk or pen, etc.). I was lazy and just used scissors.

I then picked up the fabric and folded it in half (right side of fabric in), saw where my scissor mark was and closed up the two sides by sewing a STRAIGHT LINE and left an opening at the top. I inserted the Pillow and instead of sewing up the top (again, lazy), I just tucked the extra fabric in and WAH LA! Instant pillow covers that look pretty darn good!

OLD NAVY Coupons

Have you gone to oldnavyweekly.com to get some sweet couponage? They post new deals every Thursday night. They have awesome coupons like $50 off $100 purchase (though you have to be quick to get those) and on down.
I just printed a pretty good one--30% off your TOTAL purchase!

Children's Place --St George

I was in Children's Place the other day and saw they had a ton of stuff on sale. I don't go in there too often because they cater mostly to girls (at least that's what it seems like to me). Well, in the back there were a few racks of winter boy clothes one $5ish and the other $1.99! I got Mason a few Sporty Sweatshirts and picked up some cute red cordouroy pants for my nephew (1.99!). There was a ton of cute girl stuff and their clearance bins were 50% off the sale price. I saw some cute boy and girl shoes, tights, hats, pj's, etc. for GREAT prices!

4 Steps to Reduce Your Debt

Here are some tips to help you reduce the debt that you already have:
Step One: The first step of this strategy involves writing down all outstanding balances in ascending order (smallest to largest). This is referred to as the Debt Pyramid.
Step Two: The second step of the strategy is to concentrate on completely paying off the lowest balance. By paying off the lowest balance, the top of the debt pyramid is eliminated. In addition to the minimum monthly requirement, you should pay as much as possible over and above the minimum. This is where your Tax Return comes in. For example, if the minimum monthly payment is $40 on the smallest balance, a check could be written for $75. ($40 minimum required plus an additional $35). Pay this extra amount every month until the entire balance of the first debt is paid off.
Step Three: Once the lowest balance is paid off, concentrate on the second position. After the balance at the tip of the pyramid is paid, add the minimum monthly payment of the first debt to the minimum monthly payment of the second smallest debt. For example, if the minimum payment on the first position was $40 and the payment for the second debt is $55, then your monthly payment to the second account would be $95 ($40+$55=$95). The benefit of using this step is that the minimum payments are already allocated into your budget. Thus, no additional money is reallocated to pay off outstanding debt.
Step Four: Continue using this strategy until all debts are paid.
